Fit Friday No. 5 (2018)

Happy Friday!
It's that time of the month! Today I'm checking in on how my April went. The first four months of the year have been completed, and I'm seeing some great results. I had a great month, and am feeling better than ever. If you're on this journey with me, I'd love to hear how your month was too!

Number of gym check-ins
13

Jean size
12

Pounds lost
8 pounds lost this month, and since January, I've lost a total of 11.5 inches.

Goal of the month
My goal of the month was to be consistent, and work hard. Even on vacation, and rest days, I've been hitting the gym. I've remained super focused and made serious progress this month.

Win of the month
Re-measuring for the first time in a couple months, and realizing how many inches I've lost. Also, deadlifting 145. That was a pretty sweet goal to hit for me.

Happy Friday!

Mothers Day: Gift Guide

Mama's make the world go round, am I right!? I know even as an adult I would be totally lost without my mom! The work is hard, tiring, never ending, and often thankless. So I came up with a few things I know my mom, and other moms, would love. Bonus! All of these gifts are linked here (through Amazon) and can be delivered to your doorstep, or your mom's, in just a day or two! Here are 6 gift ideas for your wonderful Mama!

This little necklace is so cute. You can choose what letters you want, and do up to three different initials! The perfect, dainty little gift! You can find this adorable gift here!

If she loves the kitchen, then this one is perfect. A nice wooden cutting block, with a sweet quote just for mom! Linked here!

I'm pretty sure I've added one of these to every gift guide I've ever done, and there's a reason why. They are amazing!! I have a few of these candles and I just can't get enough. The jar is beautiful, and they smell amazing! You just can't go wrong with this one. Find one here!

I've posted about these little books before too. Every time I give one to someone, they love it. It's for the sentimental Mama, for sure! Once you receive the book you fill it all out. Most pages are sentences that let you fill in the blank. These are especially cute if you have a little one answer and you write them in! You can get these here!

A nice salt scrub is the perfect bath or shower accessory to help Mom feel relaxed at the end of the day. This will have her skin feeling fresh and amazing! You can get it here!

This shirt is just too cute! This is the perfect easy outfit for the Mama on the go! Shop this adorable shirt here!

Don't forget to get a card and drop mom a little note telling her how amazing she is, because really, she is! We would all be lost without our Moms! And if you're a mom, Happy Mother's Day! You're amazing! Don't forget to treat your self!!

Tell me why you love your mom!!
How are you celebrating Mother's Day!?

Weekend Recap: Corpus Christi

Today I am doing a little recap on our weekend in Corpus Christi. For those that don’t know, Corpus is home to most of my husband’s family, so we try to get there fairly often, but with other trips, we hadn’t been in awhile. Chris’ family was hosting a surprise birthday party for his aunt on Sunday that we didn’t want to miss, and we took Taylor down for a dance clinic at her soon to be college Texas A&M Corpus Christi!

Coming from Dallas, Waco is on the way, which means a stop at the Silos is absolutely mandatory. It was my third or forth time to the Silos, but my first time back since the bakery opened! We got a few cupcakes and this amazing cookie is called "The Silo Cookie" ..it's the best cookie I've ever had. No kidding! We also hit the Alabama Sweet Tea truck before getting back on the road!

We got in to town late Friday night, but couldn't check in to the hotel without a stop at Jalisco's first. This is my favorite place in town. If you're not familiar with the area, there are several of these all around town. Some are better than others but I've never eaten at one that wasn't great. You just can't get this kind of food in Fort Worth. I would have eaten here for every meal if I could have!

Saturday morning Taylor had a dance clinic at the college, so we decided we'd hit the gym! Gold's Gym Corpus was so kind and let us come try out their gym free of charge. It was a great gym and we will definitely be back next time we're in town.
We spent Saturday afternoon at the beach in Port Aransas. Port A has the best beach area around, in my opinion. It was a windy afternoon, but we had fun having a little beach photoshoot!
Sunday we had the best lunch at Grub Burger Bar. The burgers were amazing, and this milkshake (the Dirty Kitchen Sink) was so good, and alcoholic!

We also spent some time at North Beach, and Fajitaville. It's a super fun spot to hang out and have a few drinks! I can't vouch for the food because we didn't eat here, but the drinks and music were good. They also have giant Jenga, which is my favorite!!
We finished the weekend off celebrating this amazing human, Chris' aunt. We had so much fun surprising her, and seeing all of the family! It's always so great to see them all, and this was definitely the highlight of the trip for me.

It was a quick trip, but we packed a ton into a short weekend, and it was a blast! Next up, Florida in 4 days! I'll be recapping that trip as well in the coming weeks!

Have you been to Corpus Christi!?
Where is your favorite beach town!?

My First Year Blogging: 6 Things I Learned

Today is my first blog-iversary! One year ago I decided to take a leap of faith and attempt to share my thoughts with the world. I've spent the last week or so really reflecting on this past year of blogging. What I've accomplished, what I've learned, and where I hope to take it from here. If you're new to blogging, or considering it, I hope this will be helpful, and if you're not, I hope you'll read along anyway!

Why did I start this?
For many reasons really. I'd be lying if I said I didn't start this to make money. That was probably, initially, the biggest reason. I'd seen a few people I knew who had very successful blogs. They were able to make enough to pay their mortgage, or even enough to stay home full time with their children. As I thought about having children of my own in the future, this idea grew more and more intriguing to me. I still have hopes that this will be more than just a little side hustle someday. Another reason I started Megs Blogs, was simply because I love to write. Writing has always been something I enjoyed, so I figured I would actually get to do something I like.

What's made me keep going?
Let me just tell you, it's not easy sometimes to keep going. Especially when you have a full time job, and a husband, and a life. I've kept on going for a couple reasons. I enjoy writing, I enjoy sharing, I have hopes my words will find someone who is in need of them, and yes, I enjoy the (very little) money I make, and I still have hopes of growing.

What have I learned?
Well, tons...

There is so much more work than you’d think!
Creating a blog, and making it successful, takes work. There is so much more that goes into it than simply writing content. Design, affiliate marketing, following guidelines, gaining readers and subscribers, just to name a few. I still feel like I have so much to learn, and I am pretty confident I will feel this way for the next couple of years.

Planning is key!
There is so much to learn, and do, a planner is so essential. I use it to plan upcoming posts, especially link ups because those must be published a specific time and date. I also plan what weeks or months I will be working on what. One month my goal was to build an Instagram for my blog, one it was to work on affiliate marketing. It can get very overwhelming to try and figure it out all at once. This helped me a lot.

Engaging with other bloggers is very important!
When I started, I just focused on my own blog. I quickly realized I needed to be following other blogs as well. I follow a few girls that inspire me daily, and I try to do link-ups as often as possible and I enjoy taking the time to read everyone else’s blogs! The engagement is good for your blog, and it’s nice to make a few virtual friends in this little blogging world.

A niche is important!
I have kind of taken my time with this. My niche is currently “lifestyle” so I’m able to cover a little bit of everything, but I definitely see myself narrowing this down in the future. Also, I purposely chose a blog name that could cover anything I wanted to do in the future. (Megs Designs, Megs Creates.. who knows!) Side note- I actually chose this name after using the Instagram handle @megscooks to share recipes.

You have to enjoy it!
Honestly, If you do not enjoy your blog, it's not going to last. It's hard enough if you do like it. It takes a lot of time and effort to continue to write content regularly. I have had a few lulls this past year, but I continue to plan and work to create content and share my little blog, because I honestly enjoy doing it. It's fun (sometimes) to learn all of the technical side to this business, and for me, writing, about anything, just eases my mind. I enjoy hearing from people I never would have known existed if i hadn't done this, and I love that my thoughts and ideas can reach all over the world.

It takes time to be successful!
If you are starting a blog in hopes of making it a business, know that it takes time. Just like any other job, you start at the bottom. I will say, it's definitely possible to be successful quickly, if you are putting in 40 hours a week, or you have a niche that is really in demand, but if you're doing this on top of your full time job, and can't devote hours a day to it, just know that it will take time. It will grow, but be prepared that it might not grow as quickly as you imagined. Shift your focus to it being a long term goal, and be okay with that. Trust the process. I had huge goals when I began a year ago, some of which I still haven't met, a whole year later. There is no shame in adjusting your goals, just don't lose them! Great things take time!

Cheers to my first year! If you have been following along,
THANK YOU!
I so appreciate every reader. If you are considering starting your own blog, or you already have, say hi in the comments, or email me! I'd love to follow your journey, and I'd be happy to share more specific advice or answer any questions you have!

Guilty Pleasures-Girl Chat Link Up

It's time for another Girl Chat link up! These have been so fun so far this year, and this month's is just a fun one. We all have a few guilty pleasures, and today I'm sharing five of mine! Some are normal, a couple are pretty strange, but they're all things I'm guilty of loving, nonetheless.

Reality TV- Especially when Chris is at work late I love to curl up on the couch and watch some reality tv. The bigger the train wreck, the better. (I was totally hooked on the last season of the Bachelor!) Oops!

Ice Cream- I am such a sugar addict. I try my best to stay away from it, but ice cream is like, my love language! Ha! A bowl of ice cream is the perfect way to cheer me up!

Christmas Movies- I seriously watch them all year long. The Family Stone is my fav, but I love the Holiday too, and all the cheesy hallmark and abc family ones. I will watch them all any time of year.

Laying out- I know it's super bad for you, and now that I've had some skin cancer scares, I pretty much always use enough sunscreen that I don't get any kind of tan, but I just love laying out in the sun.

Classic Rock Music- It is constantly on.. in our home, in my car, at work, at the pool. It puts me in such a good mood. (Think Tom Petty/Stevie Ray Vaughn type tunes!)

What are some of your guilty pleasures!?
Follow one of the hosts to link up or join in next month!!
