A Little Valentines Day Gift Guide

Today I'm sharing a few Valentine's Day gift ideas! In my world, this holiday isn't something we celebrate big, but we usually gift each other just a little something sweet. If you're wanting something small and sweet, these gifts are a great alternative to the traditional flowers and chocolates. Also, for the kids, I'm sharing books. I don't think this holiday warrants a toy, and for me, you can never have too many books for little ones, so I'm sharing two of my favorites!

1. The I love you Blanket. Chris got me an I love you blanket (almost identical) for our first Valentine's Day together. This is definitely the most loved and used present he's given me. I keep it on our couch, and use it almost daily. I love it so much, I think everyone needs one. 
2. The White Volcano Candle. All of these candles smell amazing, and I think the white one is pretty for Valentine's Day. These are my go-to gift right now. I want them all! They smell just heavenly!

3.The Engraved wallet card. I gave Chris one of these years ago. It has held up well and stays in his wallet. It's such a sweet, personal little gift. 
4. The Fancy Comb. (This is currently in my Amazon cart!) I love that it's wooden and comes with a slim little carrying pouch,  and in a nice little gift box. Practical, and something I know my guy will appreciate and use!

5. I did a different version of one of these little books for Chris one time. It's fill in the blank which enables you to make it as sweet or as funny as you want. You could give it to absolutely anyone on your list and personalize it any way you'd like.

6. Llama Llama! All the Llama books are so sweet, and this is one of my absolute favorites!
7. Pete the Cat. All Pete the Cat books are too cool for school, and this one is no exception. This one is a current favorite for the boys I nanny.

Fit Friday No.2 (2018)

Here we are already, the last Friday of January. The first month of 2018 has flown by. As promised, it's time for a monthly check-in! The first week of this month totally got away from me. It was freezing here, like highs in the 20s. I know, I know.. that's totally normal for parts of the country, but here in Texas, the 50s are freezing, so 20 with a wind chill of 14 means this girl isn't getting out of bed unless she has to! Week two, Chris got the flu, and frankly, we were just trying to survive! Once that had passed, I got down to business, and the rest of the month flew by!

Number of gym check-ins 
Leaving lots of room for improvement this month. As of today, there have been 7. By the 31st, that number will be 10. Shooting for at least 16 next month!

Goal of the month
Complete a 30 day squat challenge.
I totally failed at this! I did ten days, and then Chris caught the flu. My focus went from me to taking care of him (and trying to not get sick myself) and before I knew it life had been derailed for a full week. I managed to not get sick, and have spent the second half of the month in the gym, and just haven't picked back up the challenge yet. I will, maybe. It's a little hard to do both a daily squat challenge and train legs with heavy weights twice a week. Right now I'm trying to not over do it and burn out or get hurt.

Win of the month
I've gotten in to a great gym routine, that really works for my schedule and my body. I haven't blown off a single scheduled day since starting it. I work out hard four days, and have three days of rest. I might add in more days at some point, but right now this schedule is totally working.

Overall, I feel pretty good about the month. I wish I would have been more productive the first couple of weeks, but I'm glad I didn't dwell on it and let the whole month get away from me. Those four pounds were lost in less than two weeks, and I'm proud of that. I'm going in to February motivated and ready to accomplish as much as I can during the short month!

Girl Chat: Reintroductions

This year, I'm joining a little "girl chat" link up! I love link ups and meeting new blogger friends through them. Today's topic.. Reintroductions! 
I don't know that I really ever did an introduction post to begin with, so here it goes! 
Hi! I'm Megan. I'm 29 and live right in the center of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. I love everything southern, except for the football teams! I'm a huge football fan and my football heart lives in Colorado. My family also has a cabin in Colorado, where my dad lives most of the year, so it's close to my heart for more reasons than football! 
 I am a nanny to two sweet boys who are two and four. They keep me busy, but we have a lot of fun, and I love my job! 
In October of 2015 I married Chris. We are best friends, and we were actually friends for over ten years before we began dating. Even though we're a normal couple and annoy each other at times, it is so fun being married to someone who's just my absolute best friend. I love the idea of starting a family and growing old with him. I just feel so blessed to have found my perfect fit, and its crazy to think that God began writing our love story so many years before we had any idea. 
A few things I love
Music. I enjoy most genres, and in any given day (really in any one car ride) I can go from classic rock, to worship music, to rap, to pop, to country. Chris and I go to as many concerts as we can. I have no idea how many we've been to, but it's a bunch!
Writing. I write down everything. Cute little journals and note pads are the key to my heart! I am a total list maker, note taker, thought jotter, and (attempted) book author. This is what led me down the road to blogging, and boy have I fallen in love with writing here. 
Interior design and decor. Since being married, I have loved making our living spaces feel like home through decor. Since we are currently talking about and beginning to look for our first home to purchase, I am deep into researching renovations we will want to do and how I will want to design and decorate a larger space. 
Cooking. I have come such a long way in just a couple of years. I think I love that I've accomplished how to cook more than the actual task of it, but I love coming up with new recipes.
Hosting. I can't wait to have a bigger space and host for everything I possibly can, but in the mean time, I just host smaller amounts of people as often as the opportunity presents its self. 
Travel. I love exploring, even more so now that I'm married. Last year we went to Mexico, and we are excited to visit a few new places this year together. First up is a road trip to Florida in a couple of months!

How I stay healthy through cold & flu season

We're right in the middle of winter, and with that, comes flu season! Yuck! I hate getting sick and unless you're crazy, you do to! As a nanny, and former preschool teacher, I am no stranger to germs. I have always had a job that has put me at a higher risk for getting sick. Even though I'm not a parent and I can technically "call in sick" I definitely don't. I haven't had a sick day in four years or so! So what do I do to stay healthy!? I don't believe there is just one magic thing you can do, but the combination I use seems to do the trick, at least most of the time! Just last week, my super healthy, never gets sick husband came home with the flu. I took care of him like the good little wife I am (or try to be!) and in three days, with no tamiflu, he was better, and I had managed not to catch it! Now for the things that keep me healthy! Go me!
First and foremost, water! On a normal day I drink over 100 oz. of water, but when I feel something coming on, or even if I'm just around a sick husband, friend, or kiddos at work, I up my water intake. Sometimes I'll add lemon to it, but I usually reserve the lemons for when I am pretty sure I've caught the bug!
Secondly, I take a daily vitamin with added immunity. I take these ones. They're super good gummies and I have taken them for years now! (Chris does too!)
Another thing I do that we all should be doing anyway, is hand washing. I'll wash my hands a hundred times a day at work! I don't use sanitizer. To me there's just no substitute for soap and water, and actually washing the germs away! Everything you touch has germs, wash those hands before you put them to your mouth, etc.

Next up! For years I have been sucking on these Halls Vitamin C Defense drops! My grandmother actually used to give them to me as a child and tell me they were candy. I actually love them and think they taste so good. Also, I hate cough drops, so if you do to, these are nothing like them. I promise! I used these last week when Chris had the flu because he said it started with a sore throat. We both had them throughout the day. 

Now, my newest germ fighter and immune booster is essential oils. I am still learning and exploring different oils, but I am definitely seeing results with them and really beginning to believe in their powers! I started trying them out just a little a few years ago (and I thought it helped) but I didn't really dive in. However, over the summer, my close friend helped me switch all my cleaning products to essential oils and I have since began using more. Since the boys I nanny have been sick off and on, and since the flu is so horrible in my area, I have been diffusing On Guard (it's a DoTerra oil) as well as putting it on my wrists a few times throughout the day!
*If you want to know more about essential oils please let me know. I'd be happy to answer questions without trying to sell you something (I don't sell it!) and maybe I'll even do a whole post dedicated to it.. but I don't want to get too off topic here so I'm going to leave it at that!*

Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole

This is a recipe that comes from my husband. (Not that it's really any different from the tons of versions out there!) Nevertheless, it was his. He made it a few times when we were dating, and then passed the baton to me. It's a super easy casserole that he loves, and it's the perfect thing to warm you up on a cold winter day like today! Disclaimer: This is not a "healthy" recipe.. I'll share more of those soon!

Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole 

Ingredients
1 package of corn tortillas
4 chicken breasts 
1 package of shredded cheese 
(I use a Mexican blend)
1 can of green chile enchilada sauce
2 tbs cumin
1 9x13 glass pan

The first step of this is to cook the chicken. You can boil it, or slow cook it. I recommend seasoning your chicken while it cooks. You can use broth instead of water, or add a bouillon cube, and also add salt, pepper, cumin, garlic.. anything to give it extra flavor! If you're like me, and you don't want to do any of this, I have found an alternative. Rotisserie chicken! Costco sells it pre-shredded in two pound bags! This not only makes half of the work disappear, but it guarantees the chicken will be nice and juicy! Now that the chicken is taken care of, lets get started!
I coat the bottom of the pan with a very thin layer of the sauce. Think of it as oil, just a tiny bit is needed! 
Next I begin layering. 
Tortillas
Cheese
Chicken 
(sprinkle a little cumin)
Cheese
Sauce
 
The number of layers I make depends on how many people I'm feeding and if I want leftovers, but I usually do three or four layers. On the final layer I top with more tortillas and make sure the whole pan is covered in a nice little layer of cheese, and in the oven it goes. I bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Serve it when it's fresh out of the oven, nice and hot! Chris tops his with Cholula for an extra kick, but I eat mine just as it is! Yum!

Fit Friday No.1 (2018)

Happy Friday!! Fit Friday No. 1 of 2018! 
I'm starting the first Friday of the year off on a fit note. One of my biggest goals this year is to put my fitness first, the whole entire year. I'm good at going strong for a few months at a time, but I have trouble staying consistent longer than that. This year, I want to do better, and I want to document my journey. On top of my regular Fit Friday posts, I'm going to do a once monthly check-in! I'll answer a few questions and talk about how my month went. I hope you'll subscribe and follow along, and if you're going through your own journey, I hope you'll share it too! Every month I'll be answering 5 questions.

A Look Inside My Favorite Planner

It's a new year. You want to make a new start, get organized, and get stuff done! One of the best tools you can have is a planner. There are so many out there, but my favorite continues to be the Happy Planner. This planner comes in all sorts of adorable themes, and with so many add-ons and sticker options you can really make it your own, which I love. I will say though, the number one reason this planner continues to be my favorite, is the way it's put together. The pages can slide in and out, making it really easy for this lefty! Fellow left handed friends, I know you hate bumping into the spine of your planner or notebook while trying to write! I just pull the pages out, write my to-do's, and slip them back in. Easy! This planner has plenty of space to jot down everything I need to remember. I personally, use the month pages for everything and daily ones usually turn into meal planning, but that's just me!

2018 Bucket List

At the beginning of each year, Chris and I sit down and talk. We do a little brainstorming and planning about the year ahead and what we want to accomplish both together and separately. I just feel like this really helps us keep focus, and actually makes things happen. I thought I'd share a recap of our joint bucket list from 2017 too. We completed all but one item on our list last year! We're just gonna roll it on over to 2018 and plan on having an extra busy year!

This year we have a lot we want to do. We are putting it all on the list in hopes it will happen, but it's likely that something will have to give, because it's just a lot of travel.

South Carolina with our second family
Begin house hunting (or buy!)

We have many more (more personal) goals, but these are the fun ones! We are hoping for a productive 2018 full of lots of fun and some big changes. Two big things we are looking forward to (one being the Destin trip) are our two favorite couples tying the knot! This isn't really on our "bucket list" but I'm so excited for it! They're two big events that will definitely get crossed off, and that I am really looking forward to. One thing I am sad about is that there is no "see Tom Petty in concert" on this list for the first time in many years. That has been a favorite annual date night for years, and I'm so sad we will never have that experience again! Anyways, that's our bucket list! Cheers to a great new year!

January Goals

I can't believe January is finally here. A new year, and a fresh start! I'm keeping my January goals pretty simple, but first, a little review of December! We had a ton of fun, and knocked out every single goal!

December Goals
Make a peppermint pie
I shared this Peppermint Pie recipe here. Yum!
Get hot chocolate and drive around looking at lights
We went with our second family on Christmas Eve Eve. We picked up Starbucks, and drove through a huge light display, and then walked through another little display to Santa's village. It was so much fun!
Spend time with Zach and Lea while they're in town
We went to dinner in downtown and then to Billy Bob's Texas. This has become somewhat of a December tradition, I think we've gone every December for at least the past five years. It's always a group of us, and it's always a blast. 
Visit Vitruvian Park Lights
We did this really early in December. I didn't get a good picture, but we love the lights here. Its a massive park area with tons of small trees, each wrapped in a different color light. So pretty to walk through!

I'm going to cap it at these three goals this month. I want to go into 2018 focusing on my health and fitness. I was pretty good at this last year but December was busy, so I need to get back on track. Also, decluttering our clothing situation is honestly a huge job that is probably going to take me a full month. (I've actually already started so make that more than a month! Ha!)
