2017 Recap!

Since the end of the year is fast approaching, I thought a nice little recap questionnaire would be fun! 2017 has been a busy, productive, and fun year.  I'm a little sad to see it go, but I am very excited to welcome the new year.

What was the best gift you received?
My mom got me Adobe photoshop 2018 for Christmas and I am so excited to use it!

What was the funniest moment?
On our last day in Mexico, we spent the entire day, sunrise to sunset, on the ocean, in the sun. We both ended up with horrible sunburns and took turns putting aloe on each other that night. Chris' uncontrollable laughter when the cold aloe gel hit his back is a moment I still cant think about without laughing hysterically.

What was the biggest risk you took?
Starting my blog, and sharing it with the world.

Christmas Recap!

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone. We had a very full, very fun, four day marathon. Here's a little snippet of all the festivities!

Day 1.
We began the celebrating with a party with our second family. The kids all opened presents and the adults did a white elephant gift exchange. We had a blast. Way too much fun to stop and take pictures, except for this adorable one of Chris playing with the baby.
 Day 2.
We celebrated with Chris' family. How cute is our sweet little niece!?

Christmas Avalanche Bars

Today I'm sharing a delicious holiday treat! It's like a rice krispies treat for adults. Filled with white chocolate, peanut butter and marshmallows, it's sinfully delicious! I had plans to make a different holiday treat, but my husband specifically requested this one to take to a holiday work potluck, and I decided I'd just go ahead and make enough to gift to the neighbors and take to my in-laws and my mom's Christmas parties!

For this recipe you will need
1/4 c smooth peanut butter
1 bag of white chocolate chips
2 c mini marshmallows
3 c rice krispies
1 c chocolate chips
(The bigger ones are better for this recipe, as they're easier to see!)

What's Up Wednesday

It's What's Up Wednesday! I thought I'd participate in the last WUW link up of the year hosted by three of my favorite bloggers, ShaySheaffer, and Mel. Take a little peek at what we're up to this week!
Also, come back later (or subscribe!) to see a last minute holiday treat I made last night!!

What we're eating this week...
Since this is a short work week for Chris and I, on Sunday I made a brisket in the crock pot! It turned out amazing!! (Recipe coming soon!) So we've been having brisket sandwiches for lunch this week!
Last night we actually went out to dinner and tried Palio's pizza cafe! I highly recommend, it was delicious!!
What I'm reminiscing about...
This time of year is so special, and I'm constantly thinking back to three years ago when Chris proposed on Christmas Eve! I can't wait to celebrate that with our annual breakfast in Fort Worth on Sunday!

Three Easy Winter Soups

Today I'm sharing my top three go-to soups, perfect for those busy, lazy, cold weather days. One of these has been in my crock pot every week for the last month or so. I love the minimal prep, simmer all day, style of cooking. Totally my thing! I'm a fan of all things that go in the crock pot, but these three are our current favorites.

Favorite Meaningful Holiday Memories

Today is the last day of the link up with Sarah and Victoria. I have enjoyed this link up so much. It has been so much fun to share a bit of how I do Christmas, and to interact with other bloggers. I've come across and followed several new blogs through this two week process! Today, the topic is
Favorite Meaningful Holiday Memories
I have the BEST childhood Christmas memories. My mom's side of the family is pretty big, and when I was little, it seemed like there were a million of us. We would gather (almost) every year at my grandparents house, in a little town in the Texas Panhandle. There would be tons of presents, food, and family everywhere. Christmas Eve always began at church, and ended with all the family gathered around singing Christmas carols. Christmas Day started with stockings (and always spotting Santa's footprints by the fireplace) and was followed by the best breakfast. Then all of the family would sit around the tree together and open gifts. And there was always a big Christmas dinner later that afternoon. I hold that time so close to my heart. Those memories with my family are so special to me, and some of those traditions are so important to me.

Favorite Holiday Party Recipe

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year link up with Sarah and Victoria is almost over, just two days left! Today's topic is a holiday recipe. I don't know if you can call this a real recipe, because it's so easy (and there's no baking involved) but it's just so good!
Peppermint Pie
It's a super easy, no-bake, four ingredient, dessert!
I love everything peppermint around the holidays. Peppermint cookies, hot chocolate, milkshakes, coffee, ice cream, PIE... sign me up!!!
All you need for this pie is
1-oreo pie crust (you could use graham cracker if you wanted)
1-gallon of peppermint ice cream (blue bell is my go-to)
1-container of cool whip
Peppermints or candy cane for garnish (optional)
Whipped cream for garnish (optional)
A big bowl and spoon for mixing
I start by setting out the ice cream for a few minutes. You need it to be soft enough to mix the cool whip in.

Holiday Home Tour

Today the prompt for The Most Wonderful Time of the Year link up is Holiday Home Tour. If you read my blog regularly, you know we are currently living in a little apartment while we save for our first home. There's not much space in our little home, but I make the most of it for sure, and I love decorating it for the holidays!
I love our Christmas tree! It's filled with all white ornaments and a burlap ribbon, pretty and simple. I have yet to find the perfect topper.. someday!
I got this giant picture after Christmas last year. It's from Kirklands and I love it so much.
This little tree sits on the mantle with all of our family/fun ornaments. When we have a house we will have an additional full size tree to put these ornaments (and many others that are currently in boxes.) This little tree is perfect for our little place.
I think part of the decor is the smell that hits you when you walk in the door. This simmers on the stove and smells so good!
Lastly, this is what our holiday place settings look like this year. The large plate is from Mikasa, and the little plate is from Hobby Lobby. Our place mats are from World Market and are so delicate and beautiful!

There you have it, our cozy little home! Tomorrow I'll be sharing a fun little holiday recipe!

Our Christmas Card

Today on The Most Wonderful Time of the Year link up, we're sharing Christmas cards! I was originally going to skip Christmas cards this year. I sent one out the year we got married, but I didn't last year. To me, it sort of feels like a "newlywed" thing, or a "once you have kids" thing. (I would love to hear if you think I'm right or wrong about this, because I still can't decide!) The other day I happened to be on Walgreens website. It's my go-to for ordering pictures, because they always have discounts, and I can usually pick them up an hour or two after I order them. I needed to order prints for some new frames, and I got distracted by the Christmas card section! When I stumbled across this one, I instantly changed my mind about doing a Christmas card. I knew that our pictures from our recent trip to Mexico would fit so well with the colors and the "Warmest Wishes" greeting! I loved the idea of using these this year instead of having to schedule a session with our photographer. I uploaded pictures through the Walgreens app on my phone, and I was done! Two hours later they were in my hands! Super simple, cute, Christmas cards!
If you haven't ordered your Christmas cards yet, use the link below for half off, and get them today!
Warmest Wishes from us, to you! I hope you have a blessed Christmas season!
Come back tomorrow where I'll link up and share our holiday home tour!

Christmas Gift guide

Today I'm linking up with Victoria and Sarah again for The Most Wonderful Time of The Year link up! Since last month I did a little his/hers/kids gift guide that you can find here, today I thought I'd focus more on Christmas gifts for those white elephant parties. I usually attend one or two of these each holiday season, and I know some families that are so big this is just how they do Christmas. These gifts would also be good if you're participating in a Secret Santa gift exchange! (this post contains affiliate links!)

Copper Bar Set: This set is so pretty, and a present any adult would love!
Yeti: I can't get enough of these Yeti cups. They stay cold (or hot) all day, and are the perfect size to keep you hydrated but also fit in those car cup holders!
Volcano Candle: I have a few of these, and I swear every scent is amazing! I want them all!
External Charger: Perfect for anyone who's on the go and on their phone a lot!
20 Movie Pack: I'm buying this one for myself because hello!? Can you ever watch enough Christmas movies?
Starbucks Gift Set: This comes with hot chocolate packets, peppermint candy cane spoons, and two premium bistro mugs. These mugs are big and perfect for hot chocolate!

I had fun linking up with Sarah and Victoria again! Stay tuned for even more link ups!

A Christmas Day In The Life

For the link up today, I decided to share the big day! I'm sharing all about how my family celebrates, and digging up some photos from Christmases past!
Here is out Christmas Day!
Isn't it the best day!? Every year I look forward to it. As a child, every year was spent in my grandparents little town. The house was full, there were a million presents under the tree, tons of food, and often snow on the ground. Maybe I remember it this way because I was little, but I have a feeling my family members would agree that it was pretty magical. As the years have gone by, less have gathered at times, but we're always together in spirit, and usually through face time.
In my family, Christmas is really a two day event. Chris and I start on the morning of Christmas Eve with breakfast at our favorite spot in downtown Fort Worth. We started this tradition back in 2013. That year he also proposed to me on Christmas Eve, so its extra special, and I really love that time we get, just the two of us, before all the craziness! The past several years my mom has hosted Christmas Eve, and my Aunt hosts Christmas Day. Every year for Christmas Eve we gather for dinner and visiting, and we sing holiday songs. We might sound awful, but it's a fun tradition! The kids always pass out bells and Santa hats and we go through a book of songs my mom made many years ago!

Christmas morning always starts off with a big breakfast, and then we all sit around together and open gifts. My mom and Uncle always exchange awful, and hilarious, gifts. I wish I could share those photos, but I know at some point my mom will be reading this, and she might kill me! Ha! (Think of her modeling a hot pink robe and hairy light up slippers!)
After presents we usually end up outside, walking to the park nearby.. except for that one Christmas when it actually snowed in Dallas! Now that Chris and I are married, we usually head to his mom's after presents with my family. We exchange gifts and have Christmas dinner together before heading home. It's really a busy couple of days for us! I realized I haven't done the best job at taking photos the last few years. This year I'll be better, but here are a couple I managed to dig up!
 Our first Christmas together, 2013.
Christmas Eve 2014 (This was also the day we got engaged!!!)
 Christmas Day 2015
Christmas Day 2016
(Notice Chris' shorts and flip flops! I had sandals too, it was in 70s I think!)

Hopefully I'll do better at capturing moments this year, but this is pretty much what our Christmas day is currently like! In a couple of years, when we have a kid or two, this will be a funny post to look back on. I'm sure Christmas Day will look totally different for us in a few years!

Holiday Entertaining Tips

Today's topic for The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year link up is a little difficult for me! Since we currently live in a tiny little space while we're saving for our perfect home, we don't exactly have space for hosting. If you ask my closest friends though, that doesn't really stop me. I have hosted regular game nights for close friends, dinners for family, I even hosted Easter last year, but it was tight. Ha! One of my number on focuses when purchasing a home will be that it has space to entertain. I'm totally going to be the person who has a party for everything! With that being said, I obviously don't have any pictures to share, but I do have a few tips!

•The invite is really the very first impression you give your guests. Whether you mail them or just do an e-vite, there are tons of cute invitations you can find for free or next to nothing! It's so much more fun to receive an invitation in my mailbox (email or traditional) than a text or facebook invite!

•Decor! Make sure your home is decorated for the season. Christmas tree lit, mantle decorated, garland hung.. what ever you do to decorate your home for the season, make sure it's looking nice and festive! Even in our tiny space, I have plenty of Christmas decor. (I'll be sharing this later in the link up!)

•Designate a space for the food/drinks. Even if you're doing a party where others are bringing dishes, know where they're going to go ahead of time. Cute, festive little note cards where people can write the name of their dish to display with it are such a cute touch, and allow others to know what they're putting on their plate, (sometimes it's hard to tell what's in a dish!)

•Make a signature drink! Whether is alcoholic or not (or one of each) this is such a fun touch! If you can't think of anything festive to make there are about a million ideas over on Pinterest. I have some holiday favorites (and lots of others if you scroll down) on my drink board here.

There you have it! A few of my best tips! Hopefully next year I'll get to join in this link up again and have lots of pictures to share! I can't wait to read everyone else's tips! See you tomorrow for another link up! If you're not already part of this link up and would like to join go visit the hosts Victoria and Sarah

What's your best holiday entertaining tip?

Christmas Wish List

I'm excited to be joining The Most Wonderful Time of The Year link up this year with Victoria and Sarah! Today is day one, and I get to share my very own Christmas wishlist! Check back for more link up posts with them though out this week and next!

Hand lettering 101: For awhile I have been thinking about hand lettering. This next year I think I'm finally going to dive in and give it my best attempt.
TomBow Pens: Pastels because I love the colors, TomBow because they seem to be the most popular among my lettering friends.
Adobe Photoshop 2018: One of my goals for the new year is two improve my photos on my blog. Pretty much everything I post is taken with my iPhone and edited on Instagram. Right now, thats about as fancy as it gets, but I desperately want to do better.
Measuring cups: I have some plastic measuring cups that are just falling apart, all the measurements are rubbed off because I use them so much. I really want some like this that will last.
DoTerra Starter Oil Kit: I have thought long and hard about it, and decided I want to use DoTerra instead of Young Living. I have been using the On Guard and making my own cleaning products for a few months now. I love that I'm not using harmful chemicals to clean any more, and want to work on switching everything and diffusing oils too!
Norwex Dish Towels: If you haven't heard about these, look them up! I love them, and want some so badly! Also, I know dish towels on my Christmas wish list is kind of crazy. I'm obviously getting old and boring. Ha!
Personalized Laptop Case: My Macbook pretty much goes where ever I go at this point. Chris got me a hard cover for it for my birthday that I love, but a sleeve would still probably be a good idea, and I love this personalized one (I would do MGC for my initials!)

It's been so much fun linking up with Victoria and Sarah today! Check back as I'll be linking up with them more throughout this week and next!
