What's Up Wednesday

This week I thought I'd join What's Up Wednesday for some fun
Here we go!

Since Monday was Memorial Day, we were out of town, and meal prep fell to Tuesday night. This week I cooked for Tuesday-Thursday. Friday is our "free" night. Chris always goes out to dinner with the guys since he works Friday nights, and I usually wind up eating guacamole for dinner, just because I can! Normally I cook every evening, but we are trying to eat really clean, so I was able to do it all in one night! Yay! I brined a bunch of chicken breast, and I made a dry rub for it from scratch with five or six of our favorite spices. It turned out AMAZING! I also roasted a ton of veggies. I love being able to prep like this so I can just grab and go. It keeps me from eating junk, and I don't have to cook every single night.

Last weekend my sweet Granny turned 95 years old, and we celebrated with a big party. It was the first time I was able to bring Chris to her little town and introduce him to all the things I loved growing up! (He also got to meet some of my favorite cousins for the first time!) It was so nice to show him all of these things I'd told him so much about, and the whole weekend definitely brought up lots of fun childhood memories. I even got to introduce him to the best bbq EVER!

I'm loving this nice weather, right before it gets so hot that you don't want to do anything. It's the perfect patio weather! I'm spending as much time as possible outdoors.

As I said above, we've been out of town! Other than that, I guess the biggest thing we've been up to (more Chris than me) is fixing up a classic pickup truck. He's been working on it quite a bit, and I've been looking into new paint colors, seat covers, and rims. We've wanted to fix up an old car/truck for awhile, and although we wanted something a little older, (it's an '85) the price was right! I'm sure once it's finished it won't be long before the next one comes along!

I'm not really dreading anything. Maybe the summer heat a little bit, since I nanny two very active boys. I've been trying to come up with lots of indoor or water related activities to keep us cool in the summer months. (If you have any tips send them my way!) I'm just going to try to make the best of it.

I always feel like I'm working on tons of things. Right now I'm really trying to work on my fitness. We're trying to make gym time more of a habit. I'm also working on my blog! I've always been really inconsistent with it in the past, but I'm trying to be better!

I'm excited about the next few months. Summer is always fun, and this will be my first summer with such a flexible job! I'm hoping for lots of play dates with friends during the week, and lots of weekends in the pool. One of my best friends is getting married in the fall, so there will be lots of pre-wedding events this summer. I'm really excited to celebrate her these next couple of months.

We ditched cable awhile ago, so I've become somewhat of a Netflix junkie. Right now I'm watching Life Unexpected. So far, so good. As far as reading, I'm really enjoying discovering new blogs lately, so there hasn't been much time for books!

I'm loving my Stevie Ray Vaughn greatest hits cd. It's been in my car for awhile, but I never get tired of it. I've also been listening to Jessie James Decker, especially her "Girl on the Coast" track. It's the perfect relaxing summer tune. Her new EP Gold is on iTunes!

A couple of my current favorites are this new top (I think I got it at Target) and these adorable Sam Edelman sandals. Although most of my summer wardrobe consists of leggings and tank tops because of my job, these will be staples in my weekend wardrobe this summer.

I'm just so excited to relax this weekend. I will be spending some time by the pool to even out a tan line so that I don't look silly in a dress next weekend, but other than that, I hope we end up doing absolutely nothing. We traveled last weekend, and we're traveling next weekend, so I really want a nice, slow, relaxing, weekend.

We're traveling to Corpus to see some of Chris' family, we get to celebrate some of our best friends at their engagement party, and we have some great friends coming to town, which will for sure be a good time!

I can't think of anything else thats "new"
See you next time!

Weekend Recap

We are wrapping up our weekend and getting ready for the work week. This weekend was a particularly special one. It started with Chris getting off work early Friday. For those that don't know, he works second shift, so I normally don't really see him until Saturday. I desperately wanted a date night. I was craving a night out with my man, a festival, a game of mini golf, just something different. Bad weather prevented pretty much everything, and we ended up out at dinner. Don't get me wrong, I'm always thankful for a nice meal with my husband, but we go out to dinner pretty often, so it doesn't always feel like something special. Our night ended up being a blast, but my rockstar husband had more up his sleeve.

Enter Saturday..
First, Chris surprised me with a shopping trip. He patiently waited while I picked out a new outfit, trying on tons of shirts and dresses, and buying me two when I couldn't decide what I wanted more. He was even more patient while I searched the isles for the perfect new pair of boots. He held my things, and helped me try on pair after pair until I finally found ones I loved. His patience never ceases to amaze me. It is probably my favorite trait of his. Ladies, if you're single, look for a man with patience. Seriously. After deciding on an outfit and boots, we set out to Fort Worth for dinner and night of country western dancing. It was the perfect evening.

Normally, my husband is a huge homebody. I mean a HUGE homebody. He would be happy to not leave home for an entire weekend. This was definitely far from how he wanted to spend his Saturday, which just made the whole day a thousand times more special to me. Sometimes I complain that he rarely gets me flowers, cards, or what ever, but this day was so much better than any of that. He didn't get me something because it was a holiday or anniversary, and he didn't do it just because. He did it because he knew I needed it. I needed a night of fun, something out of the ordinary, something unexpected, and thats why he gave it to me. He knows what I need. How awesome is that?! Disclaimer: He doesn't always just know. If I need something from him, more space, attention, affection, whatever.. I tell him. I don't expect him to read my mind. Still, I am so impressed by his thoughtfulness, and I can't wait to think up something equally thoughtful to surprise him with. What are some of the most thoughtful things you and your significant other have done for each other?
